Case 092

The Missing Painting

Easy

A framed artwork disappeared from a private hallway.

Rule: exactly one suspect is guilty. The guilty suspect lies. Every innocent suspect tells the truth.
Finley

“Neither Morgan nor Sam is guilty.”

Quinn

“Finley and Sam are both innocent.”

Morgan

“Finley is innocent.”

Avery

“Either Quinn or Sam is guilty.”

Sam

“Either Finley or Avery is guilty.”

Who is guilty?

Solution: Avery

If Avery is guilty, Avery's statement is false and every other statement is true. Testing the other suspects creates at least one contradiction.
